Check the online reputation by googling the repair shop or even by asking friends. Working with your insurance company after a car accident can be time consuming and frustrating. Some insurance companies don’t want us to use factory direct parts. They will fit better and and match your vehicle exactly, but at times they want us to use less expensive parts. We take the reins and talk with your insurance company and you to determine what is best for your vehicle. This will save you time and stress that you don’t need.

Questions To Ask The Body Shop

When you first contact a body shop make sure you have questions ready and a notebook handy.                                                                           You’re going to want to know how long it will take for the repairs on your car. Some shops have a back log of cars to repair and some can fit you in relatively quickly. Perhaps that will be a determining factor when you decide what auto repair shop to use. Just keep in mind that if there is no wait, you may consider why. Is the company one to stay away from?                                                                                                         It is important to find out what, if any, warranty is offered by the body shop.                                                                                                               Does the shop have fire and theft insurance to protect your car while it is in their care?                                                                                           Ask the shop if they offer after-market parts for repairs. This can save you a significant amount of money. However, the body shop will have to work with your insurance company to determine whether they will authorize the use of after-market parts. Some insurance companies actually prefer it.                                                                                                 We recommend our customers get estimates from a few different repair shops in the area following a car accident. Although we try to stay competitive so our services are affordable for our customers, prices can vary significantly from one body shop to the next. We welcome you to get estimates from other shops as well as ours.              Some shops provide loaner cars since you could be without your car for a while. Check first with the shop before you make any arrangements for car rental while your car is being repaired. It could save you some ca

Don’t be afraid to ask questions. Any auto body shop should be more than happy to answer questions. The ability to ask questions, helps to insure you have a hassle-free experience when you bring your car to us.

This Is No Do-It-Yourself Job!

We come across customers occasionally that want to try taking on the task of repairing their car on their own after a car accident. If you do not have experience performing body repair, we would recommend against that. Whether you come to us or one of our competitors, we would say the same… leave it to the professionals. There are too many complications that can arise from an inexperienced person executing body repair. When you do the repairs on your own, it is likely that the parts won’t be under warranty. In addition, you do not have the luxury of having a certified technician work on your vehicle. Even the as-seen-on-tv apparatuses are NOT the ideal way to get dents out of your car. You can do more damage to your car than benefit it.

Other Services

Internal Auto Repairs

All too often, body damage leads to internal damage to your vehicle. If those internal problems aren’t solved, there is really no point in repairing the exterior of the vehicle. Luckily, at Chesapeake Collision we provide both services to our customers. This provides much easier communication between the body shop and the auto repair shop. Further increasing the speed at which your vehicle can be repaired.                                                                                     With our experience, in one place we will be able to determine the safety of your vehicle both internally and externally. Besides efficiency, you will also have the shop most familiar with your vehicle repairing your car. There is no need to have your vehicle towed to a new business after we’ve done the body work because we do internal repairs as well. We are proud that we can offer this service to our customers. You will receive your car fully aligned and and positioned to provide for a comfortable and safe ride.

In addition to body repairs after a car accident, you may need to have the windshield replaced or repaired. No worries, because we do those too. Whether it’s a chip in your windshield or a full break, we can provide the repairs that are best for your vehicle. Just a chip, and we may be able to avoid replacing the entire windshield for you.

Towing

When you are in a car accident, the last thing you want to think about is how to get your car away from the accident scene. There is no need to make multiple phone calls to arrange for auto repairs after an accident. You need only call one place: Chesapeake Collision. We will tow your vehicle directly from the accident to our shop whether the car is drivable or not.

Painting

Our computerize paint coloring process allows us to more precisely match the color of your vehicle to the rest of your vehicle. We aim to restore your vehicle’s color to its original appearance.

Painting your vehicle is an involved practice so we are happy to answer any questions you may have regarding the process. We take care to protect surrounding areas against spraying paint. This is followed by sanding down of the area being painted. Then we have to apply a primer just like you would on a wall at home that you are painting. After choosing the color, we can begin spraying.

After The Body Work

Did you know that after your car is freshly painted, the curing time is up to 90 days? During that time, you can still drive the car, but you’ll want to avoid bird droppings, tree sap, or other things that could stain the paint. Although the paint surface should be handled with care, you can wash your car within the 90-day time frame. You’ll just want to be sure you take care to use a soft cloth when you are washing.
